Keith Lefthand is the son of Johnny Lefthand, who posed for Jay in 1988. For this sculpture, Keith wore the same headdress Johnny wore, and it passed from father to son. Keith now owns the Lefthand family tipi, which has been in the Elbow River Camp of Stampede Park since his grandfather first participated in 1912 when Johnny was still a baby. Recently, Keith and his wife Jamie started Weasel Tail Enterprises to host events that share Stoney Nakoda culture and language. Keith is a Bearspaw Band member of the Stoney Nakoda Tribal Council and has been elected numerous times starting in 1997

“Keith talked about reservation life and the history of his family. He was interesting to me, and I enjoyed our conversation while I did my work.“
